Be who you are only Louder!
Sometimes enough is ENOUGH! And it’s time to stand up for ourselves against
harassment or second-class treatment. Our human rights demand constant vigilance if
we intend to keep them. Come with us on a journey of courage and personal growth.
This uplifting program is filled with music that puts starch in the backbone.
All I needed to learn I learned in the Haggadah
The Haggadah is an awe inspiring story of courage and hope. Through the centuries
this holy book has inspired wise folk to stand up for freedoms, civil rights of all
peoples, and to listen to the needs of others. This stirring trip through the Haggadah
along with Olympia’s Daughters’ songs of struggle and courage is certain to inspire us
in the fight for freedom.
First Love
Take a trip down "Memory Lane" with Olympia's Daughters as they reflect on the first
loves of their lives. Using well-loved Doo-wop, folk and popular music, as well as
readings drawn from the Daughters' personal experiences, this light-hearted and
poignant program is filled with laughter and healing.
The Gift
What is a gift? By definition it is something given, like a present. But there are other
kinds of gifts that are not appreciated at first. These gifts come when our lives appear
to be going along fine and suddenly something awful happens. What we think is a
curse sometimes becomes a blessing or a “Gift”. In this uplifting program of faith and
hope, Olympia's Daughters will share some of these types of gifts through their own
stories and songs.
Domestic Violence Awareness and Healing
Domestic violence affects 31% of all women at sometime in their lives. Members of
Olympia’s Daughters share experiences, healing, and the ways we can and have
personally worked to stop this epidemic. The music is healing, empowering, and full
of hope. Yes, we can each make a difference!
Revival
The Revival tradition is hundreds of years old and dates back to the time before
slavery in the USA. A revival reminds us of who we are and inspires us to face
another day. Olympia’s Daughters "Sing 'til the spirit moves in our hearts” and share
stories of inspiration. This program reawakens the heart and spirit. Join us to sing,
listen, and create musical community together.
Songs for Survival
During WW II, women imprisoned in Sumatra created a vocal orchestra to help
themselves survive in captivity. This service/program incorporates pieces they
performed as well as other songs that can help ease people through challenges and
heartaches, giving them courage and strength for their survival.
Living Song
This popular service combines lively narration, some performance pieces and many
congregational songs from the U-U hymnal "In The Living Tradition." This service
inspires people to sing with heart, spirit and mind. It is a joyful, positive experience that
shows how fulfilling community singing can be.
A Heritage of Women’s Music through the Ages
All songs performed during this program were written by female composers or
lyricists. It honors our foremothers’ bravery, perseverance and spirit. This is very
appropriate for use during Women’s History Month.
Music and Emotion
This program takes listeners on a journey of emotion. It begins with meditative songs
that encourage people to center themselves and listen to their hearts. The songs then
travel through emotions from loss and pain to acceptance and joy.
Seasons of Women’s Lives Cantata
Composed by Director Penny Gnesin with lyrics by members of the choir, this cantata
honors the three stages of a woman’s life: virgin, mother, and crone. The melodies,
both haunting and lyrical, create an analogy between nature’s seasons and the
passages of women’s lives.
Goddess Cantata
This meditative piece weaves the ageless melodies of Goddess chants to awaken the
Goddesses of earth, water, sky, and emotions.
